"As the Family of St. Leo's we are a community of God's people called by our Baptism to
continue the saving mission of Christ to each other.  We are nurtured by the Holy Spirit through prayer, scripture and the celebration of the Eucharist.  Our dedication to this mission will help us grow spiritually
and socially so that we can make God's Love a reality in our families, our community and beyond."

 Journey of Faith

Our Mission is:

  1. To love God and His Church above all things.
  2. To increase our love through serious study.

Our Hopes for Our Participants:

  1. That they take up their vocations with a greater zeal and sense of purpose.
  2. That they return to their local parishes with a sense of mission and greater clarity of their ministries.
  3. That they gain a greater sense of the larger Catholic community, and that they engage it as a brother or sister in Christ

BIBLE COURSES

(Bible 101) A Covenantal Religion
Highly recommended for those who have never taken a course in theology.  We will get to the point of the Catholic religion and we will do so, by going back to the beginning.

(Bible 102) Awaiting a Messiah
This course explores Jesus’ fulfillment of the covenants of old and how He far surpasses them.

(Bible 103) Principles of Serious Biblical Study
This course is for those who are looking to study the Bible in light of the Catholic tradition.  Topics such as the Canon, interpretation, translation and even how to select a Bible for study will all be addressed.

(Bible 104) Creating a Bible Study
A hands-on course that will actually walk you through the creation of your own Bible study.

(Bible 105) Mary in the Bible
A Scripture course on Mary that will take you all over the Bible.  This is a must for anyone engaging friends and family about the Church’s love for Mary.

(Bible 106) Peter in the Bible
It has been said that the fundamental division between Catholics and every other Christian denomination is Peter.  In this course, we will examine the Biblical data concerning this figure and consider his role within the universal church.

(Bible 107) Judas in the Bible
A Scripture course on Judas that will answer as many questions as it raises.  Join us to find out why Judas continues to be one of the most controversial figures in the history of the Church.
COURSES IN DOGMA

(Dogma 201) An Incarnational Religion
It is no exaggeration to say that salvation hinges on the body; after all, God has come in the flesh.  In this course we will explore the profound link that exists between what we do with our bodies, the sacraments, and the salvation of the world.

(Dogma 202) Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation
Most of us have already been baptized but few of us actually understand what that means.  Fewer still understand the great power that comes from confirmation.  Join us to see why the sacraments of initiation are essential to living the Christian life and how we might pass on this wonderful news to others.

(Dogma 203) Sacraments of Orders, Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick
Priests do not have jobs, but this does not mean that they do not work hard.  Like you and I priests have a mission that is supposed to consume their entire lives.  What is this mission and how are they to live it out? Come and see.

(Dogma 204) Sacraments of Marriage and the Eucharist
Some may question the decision to place marriage and the Eucharist in the same course; but if we understand Ephesians 5 properly we will see that it could not be otherwise.  Join us to find out more.

(Dogma 205) Ecclesiology
What is the Church supposed to look like? What are bishops and laity anyway? Should the Church reflect a democratic or a monarchical government? If you have questions similar to these consider joining us to study the nature of the Church.

(Dogma 206) Heaven, Hell and Everything in Between
What happens when we die is an interest to everyone no matter the culture or period in human history.  This course will consult the wisdom of the scriptures, the saints and the Tradition of the Church to see why Jesus is the answer to all of our questions.

COURSES IN ETHICS

(Ethics 301) The Virtuous Life
Can one be moral without being just or temperate? This course examines why the cardinal virtues are the foundation for any serious Christian ethic.

(Ethics 302) The Reality of Sin
It is true that many in our Church today have lost the sense of sin.  In short, people are not even sure what it is.  In this course, we will look at several historical understandings and consider the role sin has to play in the day to day living of Christian life.

(Ethics 303) Christian Moral Principles
Ethical decision making is never easy, but they need not be impossible. Join us and
explore the fundamental principles that Christians have been using for centuries to solve real life problems.

(Ethics 304) A Covenantal Morality
Drawing on our studies in ethics, scripture and dogma thus far we will go beyond principles and history to examine how the incarnation radically elevates our ways of doing ethics.

(Ethics 305) Contraception: the Great Debate
No teaching of the Church has received as much open hostility (from laity and clergy alike) as Pope Paul VI’s affirmation of the universal ban on contraception in 1968. Join us to explore the vast range of responses over the last forty years and why the Church holds firm to this unpopular doctrine.

(Ethics 306) The Theology of the Body
John Paul II’s widely known work entitled, ‘The Theology of the Body’ is being called by some a revolution. Come and see what is changing the lives of so many families and why these same people are now calling him, John Paul the Great.

(Ethics 307) The Post—Wedding Course
There is little if any support out there for Christian married couples who are trying to live holy and exciting marriages. Drawing on psychology, theology and practical lived experience, this course is for anyone who would like to put some spice back in their marriages - the Catholic way!

LAY PRACTICUM

(LP 401) The practicum has a field part and an in-class part.  Participants will spend one hour a week working with an individual already active in the ministry of the participant’s choice.  Another hour a week will be spent with the practicum group reflecting on the experience and discussing what if anything should be done differently in our own ministries.
